Size: 12 cm tall, 13 cm wide. Condition: Excellent condition, no chips cracks or restoration. This is a small and fine example of Martin McWilliam’s highly regarded ceramic vessels. The piece is hand built in stoneware clay which has been “grogged” with fired porcelain, and it has been fired in his wood-fired kiln with an ash glaze carefully controlled to enhance the trompe l’oeil effect. The vessel has Martin McWilliam’s impressed mark. It has some old glue residue on the base and probably originally had a slate base to which it was glued, although McWilliam does not always do that. Born in 1957 in South Africa, brought up and trained in England, with experience working in Europe and Japan, Martin McWilliam has from 1983 lived and worked in Germany. He has won numerous awards and his work is to be found in top galleries and collections worldwide.
