Modelled with a hare sat on top of a giant snail, set on a rectangular base incised with branches, insects and applied small smalls. Blandine Anderson finds inspiration for her work in the landscape of her immediate surroundings in North Devon. She combines different forms of wildlife with environment in sensitive and delightful ways. She works at differing scales in stoneware and porcelain, to allow her sculpture to capture both the broad sweep of ploughed fields and the minutiae of the hedgerows. Very large – Measures approx. I have not been able to find any information about this pot or the maker, though it is has the beautiful color variations of Wood Fired pottery. This large vessel is hand thrown. I believe it was stone burnished smooth before firing. There is a tiny hole pierced in the top that is suitable for a single thin stemmed flower if one desires. It was made in 1985. This Stunning Monumental Studio Art Pottery vessel measures approximately 8″ tall, 9.5″ in diameter. 37″ in diameter at the top, and 2.4″ in diameter at the bottom. This wonderful one of a kind collectors piece of Fine Studio Art Wood Fired Pottery is in excellent condition with minimal wear commensurate with age. This fabulous vase has everything a collector wants in older McCartys pottery except maybe the Merigold signature! It is made of the old clay, glazed in early jade, and has the earthiness of what I consider their best pieces. It has personality; a satiny, tactile finish and at 12 and 9+ pounds the vase commands its setting. I’m guessing it was made in the mid to late 70s. Thanks for your interest!
