A striking large stoneware vase by potter and artist Bernard Irwin b. Decorated with textured panels in muted earthy tones in blues, green and brown. Measures:39cm H x 13cm (base) x 10xcm (top). Condition: There is a small flake about halfway down on the edge (please see in photos). Otherwise in really excellent condition. I have another size vase by Bernard Irwin – see my listings. Large and striking vintage studio pottery floor vase with a tall cylindrical form and gently flared neck. Finished in a rich brown drip glaze with subtle tonal variation and an earthy, tactile surface. The scale and weight make this a strong decorative statement piece, ideal for floor display or large interiors. The form and glaze are consistent with mid to late 20th century Polish studio pottery production. Top rim diameter: approx. Widest body diameter: approx. Colour: Brown with darker drip glaze. Style: Studio pottery floor vase. Era: Late 20th century. Origin: Poland (retail label present, see note below). Vintage item may show signs of age, use, and manufacture consistent with studio pottery production. Overall very good vintage condition with no cracks or structural damage. Minor surface marks and glaze variations are present and should be considered part of the character of the piece. A paper retail label remains attached to the base, reading “Jasna Góra” with handwritten pricing and the Polish wording “Cena umowna” (meaning price negotiable). This is a retailer label, not a maker’s mark. The vase itself is unmarked, with no impressed, incised, or painted studio signature present. See photos for details and condition. Dimensions: H: 41cm (16.1″) Di: 9cm (3.5″). This is a tall cylindrical studio sculpture measuring 41cm in height, hand-built in coarse-gritted stoneware and finished with layered high-temperature glazes. The form is deliberately irregular, with a narrowed base and slightly flaring top, and an unevenly torn rim that reinforces its organic, bark-like presence. The surface is finished in a mottled volcanic glaze, primarily in earthy brown tones with milky white and olive flows that accentuate its craggy, pitted texture. One side features a dramatic vertical trail of applied extruded clay, resembling seaweed or kelp, pulled into twisting folds and ridges before being integrated into the body. This sculptural addition both disrupts and complements the columnar form, encouraging a 360-degree viewing experience. The base is unmarked but unglazed, revealing a heavily grogged clay consistent with British studio stoneware of the 1970s.

Tall, elegant bud/weed vase by iconic mid-century California potter Robert Maxwell. Executed and hand signed to the base by the artist. This is NOT a mass-produced production piece, but rather an important, one-of-a-kind original created by the hands of Mr. Maxwell himself — a rare piece of California pottery history. Done in the “EARTHGENDER” style, which was an architectural pottery collaboration between Robert Maxwell and David Cressey in the 1960’s. There’s also a black reference number on bottom, which is probably an exhibition or personal reference number for the artist. In excellent original condition, with no issues to report.
