Not sure of the other mark? Robert and Sheila Fournier. They have variously worked in thrown and hand-built earthenware, stoneware and porcelain, making tableware and decorative items. Sheila’s work has been exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum, and Robert is well known as the co-writer of the essential book British Studio Potters’ Marks. Robert Fournier was Head of Ceramics at Goldsmiths. Robert married Sheila, she learned to pot from Robert before they together set up a studio in Greenwich where they produced table ware as well as individual pieces in stoneware and porcelain. They moved their pottery to Kent in 1965 and in 1971 established the Lacock Pottery in Wiltshire where their reputations grew and Robert, as well as becoming renowned for his pebble pots based on natural forms, wrote a number of definitive books on ceramics. Sheila Fournier developed a style of porcelain ware with graceful shapes and subtle decoration; she also made stoneware pieces with layered petal-like forms, as exemplified in the item in the Warwick collection. Together the Fourniers set up the archive of the Craft Potters Association, of which they were founder members. They both retired from potting in 1987. Height 3 1/2 9. Stunning And Rare Robert Fournier Studio Pottery Pebble Vase. Wonderful piece by a fabulous artist. Excellent condition and marked. Robert Fournier set up Ducketts Wood Pottery in Hertforshire in 1946. In 1961 he married Sheila, who was trained as a teacher, and they moved to Greenwich in London. Robert taught Sheila to pot and they continued potting together in Greenwich, Kent and Wiltshire until 1987.
