Excellent example of an eight rolls Toroidal wheel vase by Bernard Rooke of Swilland Suffolk in the 1970s. Approximately 18 x 18 cms height and width. All pieces come very well double boxed with foam, paper and bubble wrap.

A Brilliant John Pollex Studio Pottery Sculptural Vase with Matte Glaze. A very rare piece produced by John Pollex. Very possibly drawn on influence from time working as assistant to his mentor Colin Pearson. The pot is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or repairs. May show slight signs of but minimal wear to the base. Please see images which make up part of the description. Apx 24cm in height. John Pollex studied at Sir John Cass in Whitechapel from 1966-68; he went on to become Technician at Harrow College of Art during 1968-70. After Harrow he became assistant to Bryan Newman and Colin Pearson until 1971. He moved to Plymouth in the autumn of 1971 establishing a studio and gallery in the historic Barbican area. In 2000 he moved his studio to his house from where currently works.

An exceptional, substantial example of 1970s Brutalist studio pottery. Standing at 33cm tall and weighing a solid 3kg, this is a heavy, high-quality “statement” piece. It perfectly embodies the raw, organic aesthetic of the Mid-Century Modern movement, featuring a rugged “volcanic” exterior that offers incredible tactile and visual depth. Design & Aesthetic? The Exterior: Heavily hand-molded with deep grooves and a multi-tonal, earthy glaze. The “molten lava” texture is highly characteristic of the 1970s Brutalist style. The Interior: A striking contrast is provided by a smooth, vibrant green glossy glaze, a signature “surprise” detail often found in premium studio work from this era. This large-scale sculptural pitcher features a thick, hand-built handle and a sturdy, unglazed base, making it ideal as a standalone floor vase or a centerpiece. Specifications? Height: 33 cm? Weight: 3 kg (Solid, heavy-set stoneware)? Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Her work is inspired and echoes ancient and tribal primitive pottery and has a simplicity of form in natural shapes and colours. 12.5 cm in diameter, 9 cm high. Please study all photos. 2 superb pieces of German hand made cast porcelain studio pottery by renowned German ceramic artist Peter Guggenbuhler (1927 – 2006). Guggenbuhler worked in Altenkunstadt in Germany, he named his studio “The Workshop” (Die Werkstatt), hence the W mark. The pieces are in fantastic condition, no chips, cracks or visible wear, & date from the 1970s. Exquisite quality and visually delightful in shape, form & colour. Both pieces carry the makers mark on the base. One piece also carries a retailers foil label, Tegelaers, Monchengladbach, a high end retailer of crystal and porcelain from the late 1950s to 2014. The vase is 16.5cm tall, 14cm wide and 9cm deep, the neck rim is 3.5cm diameter, it weighs 620g. The bowl is 13.5cm diamater at the rim, 8cm diameter base and 7.5cm tall, it weighs 281g. Total unpacked weight of the 2 pieces is just over 900g. These really are fantastic quality pieces of studio pottery and are ideal statement or feature decor pieces. Please examine photographs carefully as they form part of the description. Vintage and used items may have surface marks that are not visible in normal use but may show under different lighting conditions. These are generally commensurate with normal use and age. Serious flaws will be noted in the description and where possible photographed. Safely packed and despatched on a fully tracked service. All measurements and weights are approximate.
