Martin Everson Davis Raku Vase – Welsh Artist – Signed MED. This is a highly individual piece in which the Raku firing process has created an expressive, organic surface. The appearance changes dramatically as the vase is turned, with each side revealing a different arrangement of colour, texture and reduction effects. One side is dominated by a vibrant high-gloss cobalt blue glaze, framed by areas of soft grey, white and exposed clay, with darker carbonised markings running through the surface. Turning the vase reveals a much more graphic composition, with black slip splashes and sweeping marks across a pale ground, contrasted by areas of deep smoky black reduction. Another view reveals a predominantly charcoal, grey and raw-clay composition, with an irregular vertical divide and subtle circular carbon markings. The lower section also shows warm copper and bronze tones produced by the reduction process. The result is a three-dimensional abstract work that rewards viewing from different directions, with no single’front’ dominating the piece. Back Impressed: “POOLE POTTERY ENGLAND” Dolphin Hand Annotated “K BROWN SK” Artist’s Monogram For Karen Brown c. 1990s-2005 Lid: Hand Inscribed “SK” & Monogram. Poole Pottery was founded in 1873 in Poole Quayside in Dorset. The business continued to produce unique and ground breaking pottery including amongst others the “Delphis” range which was launched 1963. The Poole factory moved away from the quay in 1999 – significantly with Master Potter Alan White throwing the final pot at the Quayside March 2001, ending 128 years of pottery production there. Production continued at the new site in Sopers Lane Poole until its’ closure in 2006. Many gifted artists and ceramic designers have been associated with Poole Pottery over its’ 128 years including Alan White who joined in 1973 and Anita Harris who for over 10 years from the 1990s was a Senior Designer and Decorator. In 2011, Poole Pottery was taken over once again, by Denby Pottery and currently a shop and studio have been kept as popular attractions on the Poole Quayside where Master Potter Alan White can still be seen demonstrating. Several designers and ceramic artists at the site help design new collections available direct from the Studio website.

The item is without chips, cracks or repairs and is in good condition. It bears the clear impressed WM personal mark for Bill Marshall and the Leach pottery mark from St Ives.
