Absolutely stunning large ceramic centrepiece bowl / sculptural tray with an incredible flowing organic form. A truly eye-catching decorative piece with a beautiful curved silhouette, textured detailing and natural earthy tones throughout. The design almost resembles folded wood or driftwood movement despite being ceramic, giving it a very artistic studio pottery feel. The size makes it a real statement piece for a coffee table, console, sideboard or interior display. Looks exceptional from every angle. An exceptional, substantial example of 1970s Brutalist studio pottery. Standing at 33cm tall and weighing a solid 3kg, this is a heavy, high-quality “statement” piece. It perfectly embodies the raw, organic aesthetic of the Mid-Century Modern movement, featuring a rugged “volcanic” exterior that offers incredible tactile and visual depth. Design & Aesthetic? The Exterior: Heavily hand-molded with deep grooves and a multi-tonal, earthy glaze. The “molten lava” texture is highly characteristic of the 1970s Brutalist style. The Interior: A striking contrast is provided by a smooth, vibrant green glossy glaze, a signature “surprise” detail often found in premium studio work from this era. This large-scale sculptural pitcher features a thick, hand-built handle and a sturdy, unglazed base, making it ideal as a standalone floor vase or a centerpiece. Specifications? Height: 33 cm? Nic Collins large jar with shino glaze and scallop shell detail. Shino glazes were first developed in Japan during the mid-1500s. They are distinguished by their large feldspar content, minerals that lower the melting point of the glaze mixture and help bond its distinct elements. They generally range from milky whites and pinks to deep reds, oranges and greys depending on their makeup and firing and can vary hugely in appearance from potter to potter. Of particular interest in Shino wares is the phenomenon of’carbon trapping’, where carbon is caught within the glaze during the firing, creating bubble-like spots or dark grey patches on the surface of the pot. Though it is sometimes described as a glaze defect, this blushing effect can be especially attractive and is often sought after by potters. Natural ash glaze occurs in a wood fired kiln when ash particles carried around the kiln by the hot air and flames land and melt on the pots, often creating dramatic colour variations on their surfaces depending on their position in the kiln. Geoffrey Eastop Aldermaston Studio Pottery Lidded Chicken Decoration Pot 33cm. Made whilst at Aldermaston pottery this is a significant work and rare survivor given its size and form – being at last 65 years of age. With a wonderful decoration to the lid and base and rather a rare large chicken design to the lid. In fabulous condition with no chips or cracks. Approx 13 inches diamater and 4 inches tall. A significant work by the potter and would make a fabulous centrepiece for a collection of his work.

Item: This sale is for a vintage handmade studio pottery jug, with a shiny almost iridescent glaze and a rustic rim. It was made by the British potter Mick Casson at his home at Wobage Farm, down the road from us in Herefordshire. Mick was a well known character in the craft world, even presenting a BBC series in the 1970s. Condition: It is in rustic handmade condition with no chips or cracks, but on the there are 2 patches where the glaze did not fully coat the rim – see photo.
