Beautiful vase from the important early 20th Century Arequipa pottery. Located at a sanitarium in Marin, California, pottery was produced from 1911 to 1918 under the supervision of some of the most renowned potters in American history, including Francis Hurten Rhead and Albert Solon. This vase flares elegantly to the shoulder, and then slopes in to a slightly raised rim. The shoulder is carved with leaves and berries. The glaze is very subtle, with shades of grey/blue over tones of olive/copper, whidh shows through mostly at the edges of the carved leaves. Clearly marked with the impressed Arequipa California mark, along with impressed numbers. One tight hairline at the rim, slighly over 1 long, with two associated pinhead nicks. Antique Arequipa Art Pottery vase finished in a mix of light and darker blue matte glazes. The dealer believes this to be circa 1915. The impressed stamp for the pottery is on the base of the vase and appears to also have the numbers “8 0 9″ beneath the logo. Condition: In very good condition. No cracks or hairlines. There does appear to be some light glaze loss maybe a top layer? In some areas (but still glaze beneath). Also some glaze discoloration here and there. Measurements: H – 5 7/8″, Widest point – 5 1/8″, Opening – 2 1/2″ and the base – 3 1/2″.
