Unusually Large 29cm Baluster Form Poole Pottery Hand Made Jug Hand Painted In Traditional Ware CS Pattern By Poole Senior Paintress Gwen Haskins c1938-77. Excellent Condition No Chips No Cracks No Crazing. Back Stamped: “POOLE ENGLAND” “HAND MADE HAND DECORATED Dolphin Logo Hand Inscribed: “E/CS” Impressed “623 Artist’s Monogram For Gwen Haskins c. Height: 29cm Max Width: 28cm Top Opening: 14cm x 13cm Base Diameter: 14cm. Poole Pottery was founded in 1873 in Poole Quayside in Dorset. The business continued to produce unique and ground breaking pottery including amongst others the “Delphis” range which was launched 1963. The Poole factory moved away from the quay in 1999 – significantly with Master Potter Alan White throwing the final pot at the Quayside March 2001, ending 128 years of pottery production there. Production continued at the new site in Sopers Lane Poole until its’ closure in 2006. Many gifted artists and ceramic designers have been associated with Poole Pottery over its’ 128 years including Alan White who joined in 1973 and Anita Harris who for over 10 years from the 1990s was a Senior Designer and Decorator. In 2011, Poole Pottery was taken over once again, by Denby Pottery and currently a shop and studio have been kept as popular attractions on the Poole Quayside. Several designers and ceramic artists at the site help design new collections available direct from the Studio website.

Beautiful Agnete Hoy Celadon Green Glaze Squat Baluster Vase (Bullers Studio). Agnete Hoy was born in England in 1914 to Danish parents. At age 19, she applied to the Copenhagen College of Art and Crafts and was accepted, studying there for 3 years. After this she worked with Gerhard Nielsen at the Holbaek Pottery for a year and then moved on to working at Saxbo for Natalie Krebs. She then set up her own studio and also lectured at art colleges until the early 1990’s. She died in 2000. Her pieces have become more and more sought after, bridging between industrial ceramics and the work of the studio potters. The vase is finished in a beautiful celadon green glaze with a blush design to the front of the piece. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or scratches.
