Tom Wallick Studio Pottery Urn Vase 2005 LARGE 17 Beautiful Art Pottery. This is a beauty. Very large 17 tall Urn vase. Will certainly be a conversation piece in any home. There is some slight chipping of the glaze on the outside, and 2 chips on the inside top edge that cannot be seen when the lid is on. The larger of the chips has a hairline crack forming on the inside of the Urn. It does not go all the way down, and does not go through to the front. Condition as shown in pictures. Vintage Pond Farm Studio Pottery Vessel Description and Item Information Up for sale is this vintage Pond Farm studio art pottery vase. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This piece is approximately 5 1/2 inches tall, with a maximum width of about 5 1/8 inches. Unpacked, it weighs 1 pound 9.6 ounces. The exterior has banded or horizontally striped glazing and a slightly rough texture. The glossy interior is white and brown. This would be a fine addition to a collection of studio ceramics. Identification This vintage pot is incised beneath, “Pond Farm, ” as shown. A number “35” is also written beneath in pencil, as found. Marguerite Wildenhain, an important potter, founded Pond Farm. She is listed on askART and on Vasefinder, and her works have been exhibited by many museums. Per the Vasefinder Museum and the Robert V. Starting in 1914, she studied sculpture at the School of Applied Arts in Berlin. In 1919, she commenced studies at the Bauhaus in Weimar, where she studied with Max Krehan and Gerhard Marcks. Wildenhain taught at the Municipal School for Arts and Crafts in Halle-Saale, where she was head of the ceramics program. She relocated to Putten, Holland during the 1930s, where she had a studio with her husband. She moved to the United States in 1940, settling in northern California. Wildenhain taught at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. She moved to Pond Farm in 1942, in Guerneville, California (north of San Francisco). Summer workshops commenced in 1949. At Pond Farm, she taught some of the greatest artists from around the world. Wildenhain exhibited at the Nationals during 1940, 1946, 1947, and 1950. Condition This piece looks good overall, with light wear and no post-production chips or cracks. As made, there are a couple of minor firing flaws to the rim. Huge, Vintage Antonio Prieto Studio Pottery Vase Description and Item Information Up for sale is this impressive studio art pottery vase by the listed California artist, Antonio Prieto. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This decorated bottle form has a narrow mouth and a deep foot area (apparent if you look beneath the pot). The glaze is purplish blue and gray with brown mottling; there are vague, abstract, round patterns to the mid-section of the exterior. This piece stands approximately 18 1/4 inches tall; it has a maximum width of about 5 5/8 inches. Unpacked, it weighs 7 pounds 7.4 ounces. This would be a fine addition to a collection of American studio ceramics. He attended the California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC), the California School of Fine Arts (CSFA), and Alfred University. He was husband to Eunice Prieto. He taught at the CCAC and at Mills College, where he was an influence to many now famous studio potters. He exhibited widely during his lifetime, and his work is now held by important museums and in private collections. Condition The vase looks very good overall, with no cracks or chips. It has light wear. Variations in glaze application are as made. Also as made, there are a couple of brown crease-type firing flaws on the exterior sides; the one shown in Photo 4 is approximately 1/2 inch long, and the one shown in Photo 9 is about 1 1/8 inches long.
