Size: 17 cm tall, 8.7 cm across rim. Condition: Excellent condition, no chip, cracks or restoration. This vase is typical of the precision Louise Darby applies to her work, while retaining subtle feature of handmaking which gives it a special life and vibrancy. The vase is thrown in a fine clay, carved with three tiny pierced holes and a blue line running down the outside, and biscuit fired before being finished with an immaculately smooth blue glaze on the inside which is matched by the same on the underside of the base. The final firing is in a gas fired kiln to 1280 degrees C. Louise graduated from the Loughborough College of Arts and Design in 1978 and initially worked with Reg Moon at the Torquil Pottery in Henley-in -Arden, Warwickshire, before setting up on her own in 1983. She is a member of the Craft Potters Association and nowadays she tends to sell her work direct from her studio and via the Clay Barn exhibitions which she organises in concert with other artists.
