Rare handmade Tony Gant studio pottery drinks set comprising a beautifully shaped bottle/decanter and six matching cups. Finished in a soft speckled stoneware glaze with earthy banded decoration, this is a superb example of British studio pottery craftsmanship. The rounded vessel with twin lug handles has a sculptural modernist form, complemented by six matching beakers. Each piece bears the maker’s mark to the base. Highly decorative yet fully functional, this set would make a fantastic addition to a studio pottery collection or mid-century interior. Comparable Tony Gant sets and individual vessels are increasingly hard to find, especially complete examples with all matching cups. Material: Handmade stoneware pottery. This wonderful high quality handmade stoneware decanter or flask is from Burslem Pottery’s tremendous Court Room Collection, featuring stunning grotesque bird designs by Andrew Hull that are inspired by the Martin Brother’s “Wally Birds”. This particular Defender is quite a rarity, an early piece made at the Heron Cross studio in 2007, it is signed by Andrew Hull and was painted by Tracy Bentley in a trial colourway. These figures are hand crafted pieces of art decorated in a variety of matt and glossy glazes that give them a very tactile textured finish.
