LOVELY JOHN MALTBY MONOCHROME EWER. This is a lovely large stoneware sculptural ewer made by the noted artist John Maltby at his Stoneshill Pottery Crediton, Devon probably dating, I would guess, from the mid 1980’s – 90’s. It is depicted in a large(ish) tapering oval / lozenge shaped jug form with a small, looped handle, a chalk white lightly textured surface decorated with a hand painted abstract design in blue and black. While the base has a hand painted’Maltby’ and what looks to be’VB’ or’VE’?? It measures 8″ (20cm) H x 6″ (15.25cm) L x 2 1/4 (6cm) D approx; and is in good condition, although it does have some problems. It has two shallow chips to the inside rim of the jug (these don’t appear to travel over / or to the outer surface of the piece) and is a mark to one side to report – see photographs and details, unfortunately these photographs are poor quality, and it looks a lot more blue than in reality. This is a wonderful piece of period John Maltby designed / made ceramic’sculpture’ which is in good condition and with a low start price should get quite a lot of interest from all collectors. THERE IS NO RESERVE ON THIS SALE. ALMOST EVERYTHING I SELL IS IN THE CONDITION I HAVE BOUGHT IT, UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED, (I HAVE LEARNT TO MY COST IN THE PAST NOT TO TAMPER WITH AN ITEM), AND THEREFORE I HAVE NEITHER HAD ITEMS REPAIRED NOR RESTORED. This stunning heavy item measures approx. 15.1/2 in height, signed mark, in excellent condition, no chips or cracks. Showing what looks to be a small firing fault to base rim.
