Here we have a superb mid century studio pottery vase in the form of a girl. It is signed “Fanch” to the underside, I have been unable to find anything regarding the maker despite thorough research; but it seems Fanch is a French surname originating in Breton so it could be French in origin. The piece is very similar to some Swedish pottery I have seen by world renown ceramicist Lisa Larson. It has such an amazing design, the folk figure has pierced holes in her bouquet where you can place your own flower heads/stems. It could also be used as a candle holder at the top if you wished. The colours in the glaze are bright yet subtle but a nice contrast on the terracotta toned face. This has plenty of Scandi folk charm sure to bring a smile to your face. This would date to around the 1960’s and it. Measures approximately 7.75 inches tall by 4 inches weighing a little over 750g. Perfection for any Scandi inspired home. Superb Rare Fernand LACAF Signed French Studio Pottery Vase. The vase has a modernist mid-century design with different shades of purple and mauve. It measures 20cm in height and 11.5cm in width at the widest point. Signed LAcAF on the base. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Minor marks on the base round the edge as expected. Fernand Lacaf was a post-war contemporary artist born in 1920 and died in 1992.

The vase stands about 41cm tall and is incised Pol Chambost and a date that I think is 1973. I found the following bio online. Pol Chambost was born in France in 1906. After studying at the Ecole des Arts Appliqués, he began his career following in his father’s footsteps, becoming a funeral sculptor. A few years later, he discovered ceramics, which he first used in the family marble workshop and then to create his first pieces. He developed a passion for the art and opened his own workshop. Subsequently, he developed his art and techniques. He met with great success, not only in France but also in the United States. He played a major role in the Chambre syndicale des céramistes d’art. He was also present at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and the Salon des Arts Ménagers. The vase is in perfect condition. I can find no flaws. Please study the photos carefully to satisfy yourself with the condition of the piece.
