This Listing is for. A Collection of 4 Studio Pottery Vases in Earth Glazes Signed Display. All by the same hand. Russell Akerman has a British studio set up in Lancaster, Lancashire, where he creates innovative gloss glazed pottery ranging from elegant contemporary pieces to recreating Art Deco ceramics. The’Echo Of Deco’ project commenced in 2004 when Russell combined with his father Malcolm, to design distinctive pieces that faithfully pays homage to the geometric lines, bold colours and original flair of the Deco aesthetic. They are continually expanding a range that reinforces the diversity and timeless grace of Art Deco, including pieces inspired by the vibrant Jazz Age. He has also started a range of heritage based ceramics in the style of 18th-19th Century Traditional English Country Pottery/Slipware along with holding a special interest in studying classical styles from around the world. His summation of his Cobalt Blue range exemplifies his considered approach to his art -‘These vessels were made using a white earthenware clay body hand thrown on the potters wheel and finished in a Cobalt blue crackle glaze, complemented all over by rich dark speckles of Manganese. When designing this glaze I was particularly drawn to the surface movement and the distinctive natural patterns created by the intense heat of the kiln. These dynamic markings are completely unique to each piece and produce many interesting variations to the surface composition. The semi translucent’crackle’ nature of this finish is also much enhanced under strong lighting and reveals many more wonderful colours. As with much of my work, I have left visible a few subtle throwing lines and unique markings to show the origins of being made on the potter’s wheel. The intention here was to combine the above elements with the shape and form to create a collection with an overall sense of balance. I always look forward to seeing more Art Deco gems being rejuvenated with the refreshing designs of Echo Of Deco along with Russell’s other explorations into broader ceramic creations. This is a magnificent Troika St Ives jug, an iconic design with a variety of reactive, textured and glossy glazes and platinum on a tactile storm blue background and a smooth, pale interior. Made by Cornish pottery Geoff James, Redruth, Cornwall, who with his mastery of glazing has created exciting, contemporary generation Troika studio pottery, right here in Cornwall. The central hole (Geoff calls this the Hepworth hole) has a rich, deep blue glaze, every angle gives you a new shape, texture and colour to look at, it is a stunning piece. The vase is signed, it has the potter’s imprint GJ and is stamped on the base with the model’s name and the unique issue number. Height: 26.5 cm / 10.4 inches. Width: 14.5 cm / 5.7 inches. Depth: 7.5 cm / 3 inches. Weight: 1455g / 51.32 ounces. Troika pottery started life in St Ives, Cornwall in 1963, then moved to Newlyn and in 1983 it had to close. When Fosters Pottery took over the Troika name, Geoff James decided to name his pieces Celebration of Troika to distinguish his new generation pieces from the previous, Cornish incarnations. Work celebrate and embody the ethos of Cornish Troika, as well as showcasing Geoff James’ extraordinary pottery skills and understanding of complex glazes. Geoff uses traditional Troika pottery moulds and he decorates them using his own glazes. Containing a combination of metal oxides and rare earth salts producing stunning and unique pieces with incredible glaze effects. Each mould is used to produce only a limited number of pieces and each piece has a potter’s imprint’GJ’. They also have the Troika mould name, the unique issue number as well as the pottery’s stamp on the bottom.

A very fine large open studio pottery vase by leading British potter Poh Chap Yeap. Painted signature to the underside. Rich black tenmoku glaze with yellow-green ash glaze splashes to two sides. Excellent condition, as new. Dimensions (approximate): 22cm x 28cm x 28cm. A first class example of this potter’s work and an unusually large example.

A fine and fairly large studio pottery jug by leading British potter Jim Malone. Wood ash glaze overlaid with a creamy high-silica nuka-type glaze. Potter’s marks (personal mark and “A” for Ainstable) to the foot, partially glaze-filled. Dimensions (approximate): 31cm x 19cm x 18cm. Very good condition and as new, but there is a narrow, non-penetrating and partially-glaze filled firing crack to the underside of the top of the handle (see photos). Otherwise a very good example. Jim Malone is one of the leading post-Leach British potters and there is a widely held view that his stoneware jugs and pitchers are the best of his generation.
