Kenneth Quick Yunomi (tea bowl) for Leach pottery (Rare). Kenneth Quick’s personal impressed mark is indistinct. It isn’t helped by the fact the impression is made on the slightly curved part of the inside of the foot ring and where glaze has collected. There are two impressed marks one is for Leach pottery. This Yunomi has similarities with other work he produced at Leach in size, form, colour and style. The photographs 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12 are of other Yunomis by KQ with clearer, cleaner marks despite there still being some glaze problems. His work for Leach pottery only comes up for sale rarely. I can’t be any fairer. Just so people are aware I have received a question about the mark and a suggestion that it could be by Bill Marshall. I’m sure there will be others who have a similar opinion and it was something I had considered myself. The last photograph shows 4 x Bill Marshall yunomis some from the time he was at Leach some Lelant. They are very different in size and form and I feel that it is more likely than not to be KQ given the photographs of his other similar work. I did try to get better photos of the mark and I sent them onward but they aren’t any better than those shown. If I can help further please don’t hesitate to contact me. No chips, cracks or repairs. He was tragically killed in a boating accident in Japan in 1963. Thank you for looking at my items which will be updated regularly. Rare Kenneth Quick Tregenna Hill Pottery Small bowl. Kenneth Quick, cousin to William Marshall and uncle to Scott Marshall, was born in St Ives in 1931. He joined the Leach Pottery in 1945 to make standard ware, and was regarded as one of the most promising of the three apprentices. In 1955 he left to set up his own pottery, Tregenna Hill Pottery in the street of the same name in St Ives. After his return from a six month teaching visit to the USA in 1960, he was persuaded to return to the St Ives Pottery. On a Leach Pottery sponsored visit to Hamada’s pottery in Japan in 1963, he was drowned in a swimming accident. Wonderful piece in excellent condition and mark TH. Considered by Bernard Leach to be one of the finest potters of his generation, Kenneth Quick sadly died aged 32 in Japan whilst studying with Hamada. Pieces by this accomplished potter are rare.
