Being offered is this vintage Japanese Ikebana double vase with center planter. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and shows little to no signs of wear. The vase measures 10.5″H (opposite side is 8.5″H) x 9.25″L x 3″W and retains it’s original maker’s label written in Japanese. A great piece of mid-century art pottery by Italian designer Aldo Londi for Bitossi Ceramic Studio, brought to the American market by Raymor, the import company that did perhaps more than any other single US company to influence interior design in the middle of the last century. This example from Aldo Londi for Bitossi, in the warm orange and brown Sahara colors, stands just over 8 tall and is in flawless condition. Felt pads have protected the base, so there are not even the usual scratches here. The original Raymor label, MODERN in the TRADITION of GOOD TASTE also has the item number 1138 and BIT (for Bitossi) printed twice. See photos for details. One vase has loss to the glaze towards the base – this is shown with a ruler very clearly in the photos. Size is shown of each vessel with a ruler height and longest base side. Size varies from 9 cm to 6.5 cm tall. They are all marked IA in a rounded corner square stamp. This mark is not very clear but also very hard to get a good defined photo. Two have additional paper labels. This is a very early example of Ian Aulds’ work. Most likely made at his home in Saffron Walden. Happy to supply more photos if required.
