An exceptional, substantial example of 1970s Brutalist studio pottery. Standing at 33cm tall and weighing a solid 3kg, this is a heavy, high-quality “statement” piece. It perfectly embodies the raw, organic aesthetic of the Mid-Century Modern movement, featuring a rugged “volcanic” exterior that offers incredible tactile and visual depth. Design: Aesthetic? The Exterior: Heavily hand-molded with deep grooves and a multi-tonal, earthy glaze. The “molten lava” texture is highly characteristic of the 1970s Brutalist style. The Interior: A striking contrast is provided by a smooth, vibrant green glossy glaze, a signature “surprise” detail often found in premium studio work from this era. This large-scale sculptural pitcher features a thick, hand-built handle and a sturdy, unglazed base, making it ideal as a standalone floor vase or a centerpiece. Specifications? Height: 33 cm? Stunning MCM fat lava glazed vase with a touch of purple to the glaze by Pieter Groeneveldt. It is in fantastic condition and is a highly desirable piece of art pottery. Measures roughly 15.5cm high, 10.5cm diameter. Please note this is a used item and although i try my best to make sure i list every fault and flaw there may be some minor signs of age and wear that i have missed. Photos make up part of the description so please look at them closely. He began working in art pottery from the 1920s and had a studio in Voorschoten in the Netherlands which he operated until 1972. He is best known for his use of experimental glazes which can come in all textures and colours. He is best known for his chamotte and lava glazes developed in the 1950s and 60s, pre-dating many in a similar style that later came from West Germany. He is now getting recognised as one of the great Twentieth Century ceramics innovators.

Stunning Poole Pottery Vase – Hand Made And Hand Painted In. Living Glaze – A Unique Production Method Pioneered at Poole Over Forty years ago. A Really Substantial And Weighty Vase. Height: 26cm Max Width: 20cm Top Diameter: 13.5cm Base Diameter: 11. Poole Pottery was founded in 1873 in Poole Quayside in Dorset. The business continued to produce unique and ground breaking pottery including amongst others the “Delphis” range which was launched 1963. The Poole factory moved away from the quay in 1999 – significantly with Master Potter Alan White throwing the final pot at the Quayside March 2001, ending 128 years of pottery production there. Production continued at the new site in Sopers Lane Poole until its’ closure in 2006. Many gifted artists and ceramic designers have been associated with Poole Pottery over its’ 128 years including Alan White who joined in 1973 and Anita Harris who for over 10 years from the 1990s was a Senior Designer and Decorator. In 2011, Poole Pottery was taken over once again, by Denby Pottery and currently a shop and studio have been kept as popular attractions on the Poole Quayside where Master Potter Alan White can still be seen demonstrating. Several designers and ceramic artists at the site help design new collections available direct from the Studio website.
