A lovely vintage Naturalistic bulbous seed pod vase made from stoneware clay and extremely well potted. Nice size measuring, height 13cm x width 18cm. Internally glazed, matte finish to the exterior. Overall a great sculptural piece. Price reflects the quality.

LOVELY JOHN MALTBY MONOCHROME EWER. This is a lovely large stoneware sculptural ewer made by the noted artist John Maltby at his Stoneshill Pottery Crediton, Devon probably dating, I would guess, from the mid 1980’s – 90’s. It is depicted in a large(ish) tapering oval / lozenge shaped jug form with a small, looped handle, a chalk white lightly textured surface decorated with a hand painted abstract design in blue and black. While the base has a hand painted’Maltby’ and what looks to be’VB’ or’VE’?? It measures 8″ (20cm) H x 6″ (15.25cm) L x 2 1/4 (6cm) D approx; and is in good condition, although it does have some problems. It has two shallow chips to the inside rim of the jug (these don’t appear to travel over / or to the outer surface of the piece) and is a mark to one side to report – see photographs and details, unfortunately these photographs are poor quality, and it looks a lot more blue than in reality. This is a wonderful piece of period John Maltby designed / made ceramic’sculpture’ which is in good condition and with a low start price should get quite a lot of interest from all collectors. THERE IS NO RESERVE ON THIS SALE. ALMOST EVERYTHING I SELL IS IN THE CONDITION I HAVE BOUGHT IT, UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED, (I HAVE LEARNT TO MY COST IN THE PAST NOT TO TAMPER WITH AN ITEM), AND THEREFORE I HAVE NEITHER HAD ITEMS REPAIRED NOR RESTORED. A green vase designed by Carl-Harry Stålhane at Rörstrand, it’s 10 cm (4) high. It’s marked as 1st quality and is in excellent condition. Carl-Harry Stålhane is one of the top names when it comes to midcentury Scandinavian Ceramics. He was the artistic director of Rörstrand from 1950 until 1973. His sheer and elegant stoneware vases from the 1950s with speckled eggshell-like and harfur glazes in muted shades have received a marked increase in demand in recent years and are often included in international interiors and collection. His artworks are represented at MoMA in New York as well as Victorian and Albert Museum in London.

This is a possibly unique sculptural bowl from Hastings Pottery, probably made by Dennis Lucas. Elliptical, heavyweight, glazed and rough textured stoneware. Impressed Hastings stamp to base. I came by a collection of Hastings pottery recently – see last photo – but this one stands out from the more common pieces. Measuring 6 inches in length, 5 inches in width, and 4 inches in height. I package all items with care – see feedback.
