Absolutely stunning studio pottery piece by John Leach for Muchelney Pottery. This is an exhibition piece and is stamped with John’s personal stamp alongside the pottery stamp and a date stamp indicating that it is made in 2010. It includes a signed paper label with details of the piece on. This is a lovely example of a Tenmoku glaze that is incredible tactile and each time I look I see something new. It is a lovely bulbous vase. It measures approximately 11cm in height and 10cm in diameter. The base is 6.2cm in diameter and the opening has a diameter of approximately 4.1cm. The vase itself is in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing. The paper label has been damaged and so I have placed it in a plastic protector to stop further damage. It is in half down the spine and the front is ripped in two, however it is still readable. Please see photos carefully as they form part of the description, I’m happy to answer any questions or send more photos. All breakables are carefully packaged in tissue paper and either recycled honeycomb paper or bubble wrap in a strong cardboard box with plenty of brown paper void fill.

John Leach Muchelney Studio Pottery Stoneware Black Mood Jug. Saggar fired with sawdust, which is what gives the paler, contrasting colour. 14cm tall and 30cm in circumference at its widest point. Muchelney stamp, John’s personal stamp and dated to base 1990. The contrast between the two colours is dependent on the chemical reaction during firing. Size: 19 cm tall. Condition: Excellent condition, no chips cracks or restoration, and clean. This a classic piece of Leach pottery, made by John Leach, the third generation of the famous Leach family, at his pottery in Muchelney, Somerset, in 2004. The vase is thrown in a buff clay, faceted and turned, and finished in a lovely tenmoku and ash glaze combination, which fires thin at the edges of the panels to an orange brown. As with all Muchelney work, the vase is woodfired to stoneware temperature. The vase is John Leach’s personal work and bear his impressed seal mark and the date mark for 2004. He studied under his grandfather and father at St Ives and under Ray Finch at Winchcombe. He founded Muchelney Pottery in 1964, and developed a range of pottery using local clay and wood to fuel the kiln. His work, which develops the traditional techniques and philosophy of his grandfather, is held in many public galleries.

Approximately 15cm in height and 12 cm in diameter at its midriff. The base has the impressed makers mark of Muchelney Pottery and John Leach’s own impressed mark. It also has the number’89’ which presumably relates to the year 1989. Undamaged and free from any chips, cracks or repairs. The cost will vary from country to country from courier to courier and will depend upon weight and size of the parcel when packed.
