The item is a “Bud Vase” made with hand thrown Pottery and Hammered Copper. This bud vase measures 7 3/4″ tall with the pottery insert mounted and 4 7/8″ in diameter at the widest point along the bottom of the tray. This bud vase displays a hammered copper form with a pottery insert. The base that holds the insert is copper with the hammering done on the inside bottom. The form is quite unique as it has an irregular bottom tray edge with 3 riveted scroll arms that are riveted to a ring towards the top. The top of these arms roll over at the end forming scrolls. There is an incised zigzag Indian or Southwestern influenced design on the outside of the ring. The inside bottom of the dish is raised up and forms a well to receive the pottery insert. The insert that fits into this is made of pottery and has a deep mauve high gloss glaze. The top of the insert is ruffled like a flower. This bud vase and pottery insert are considered to be in excellent condition as there are no major dents or dings to the metal and the Pottery insert shows no signs of damage and very little use. This vase is signed in 2 areas. The bottom hammered copper tray is signed on the underside bottom with the impressed Craftsman Studios at Laguna Beach Calif. Along with the hand hammered anvil impressed mark. There is also shape number “372” impressed just underneath the anvil. The pottery insert is signed on the very bottom and that reads, “For Craftsman Studio by Brayton”. Brayton Pottery made this exclusively for Craftsman Studios. An early Alan Wallwork small round pot. Width: 4 inches; Height: 2 inches. This is an older piece from the 1960s. The pot has small pock marks caused by Wallwork putting seeds in the surface of the pot before firing. The seeds burned away, leaving the holes and char marks. Marked with Walwork’s early “W” signature on the bottom. As with many of Wallwork’s smaller pieces, this one feels very good in the hand. A really nice example of his early organic work. This is a special piece. An Alan Wallwork porcelain pierced and cleft sphere. Diameter/height: approximately 4.75 inches. One of Wallwork’s iconic forms, this one has a number of bells and whistles: it is porcelain, which is a bit unusual; it is highly textured, with a myriad tiny piercings. In addition to this, there are multiple glaze effects that leave some areas very white, others blue, and yet others with pooled glazes. Marked with Wallwork’s “AW” mark on the bottom, with the original label with exhibition number attached.. Made during his period in France. His organic forms are instantly recognizable.
