Stunning Poole Pottery Vase – Hand Made And Hand Painted In. Living Glaze – A Unique Production Method Pioneered at Poole Over Forty years ago. A Really Substantial And Weighty Vase. Printed Backstamp: “POOLE POTTERY ENGLAND” Dolphin Logo Unknown Artist’s Monogram “W”. Excellent Condition No Chips No Cracks or Scratches No Crazing. Height: 26cm Max Width: 20cm Top Diameter: 13.5cm Base Diameter: 11. Poole Pottery was founded in 1873 in Poole Quayside in Dorset. The business continued to produce unique and ground breaking pottery including amongst others the “Delphis” range which was launched 1963. The Poole factory moved away from the quay in 1999 – significantly with Master Potter Alan White throwing the final pot at the Quayside March 2001, ending 128 years of pottery production there. Production continued at the new site in Sopers Lane Poole until its’ closure in 2006. Many gifted artists and ceramic designers have been associated with Poole Pottery over its’ 128 years including Alan White who joined in 1973 and Anita Harris who for over 10 years from the 1990s was a Senior Designer and Decorator. In 2011, Poole Pottery was taken over once again, by Denby Pottery and currently a shop and studio have been kept as popular attractions on the Poole Quayside where Master Potter Alan White can still be seen demonstrating. Several designers and ceramic artists at the site help design new collections available direct from the Studio website.

Poole Pottery remains one of the big names in popular studio pottery and Early 20th Century examples of its traditional stylistic floral ware with the Carter Stabler backstamp is much sought after. The jumbo size, strong colours and good condition combine to make this twin-handled vase rare and collectable. Not easy to find. The markings on the base of the vase are a bit complicated and we don’t know what the larger black numbers mean. There is however the small, but important, square impressed Carter Stabler Adams, albeit rather feint and it dates it to c. Interestingly, we are also aware of an identical vase attributed to paintress Ruth Pavely who eventually became Poole’s Head of Painting. We’re so pleased to be able to offer this gorgeous piece. A vintage item has to be 100 years old to graduate to Antique status and this vase is close to achieving this. However, in spite of age and use it has survived well without chips, cracks or evidence of restoration that we can find and the colours remain strong. There are two minor issues to draw your attention. We noted two tiny production related’bubble bursts’ in the glaze which can be seen on a petal of the large yellow flower (see image) and there is typical aged related light crazing in the glaze. We only charge what the Post Office and couriers charge us. WE ALWAYS TRY TO HAVE AN INTERESTING RANGE OF ANTIQUES. WE’D LOVE YOU TO VISIT US.

Oakwoodstudiopottery, welcomes you to our listings. We are delighted to offer an eclectic mix of contemporary studio pottery and occasionally books that are studio pottery related. Our pots and ceramics feature some of the best potters & ceramicists of the last quarter of a century. A good and rare porcelain bottle vase by James Walford. Incised with sunflower type motifs. This vase by Walford is a great example indicating the influence the that Song Dynasty pottery had on his pots and that of other potters of the period, for examples Bernard Leach and Charles Vyse to name just two. The piece has his very clear personal mark and also possibly a glaze or body reference written in iron oxide. Walford was one of the early studio potters and one of the founding members of the Craft Potters Association C. His work should I think be mentioned in the same breath as Charles Vyse another early potter of the studio pottery movement. Excellent, with no obvious signs of damage or repair.
