This is a special piece. An Alan Wallwork porcelain pierced and cleft sphere. Diameter/height: approximately 4.75 inches. One of Wallwork’s iconic forms, this one has a number of bells and whistles: it is porcelain, which is a bit unusual; it is highly textured, with a myriad tiny piercings. In addition to this, there are multiple glaze effects that leave some areas very white, others blue, and yet others with pooled glazes. Marked with Wallwork’s “AW” mark on the bottom, with the original label with exhibition number attached.. Made during his period in France. His organic forms are instantly recognizable. An Alan Wallwork cleft and pierced sphere. Height: 5.75 inches. The piercings in the cleft of the piece are split as they go towards the top, giving the appearance almost like a zipper. Marked with Walwork’s “AW” signature on the bottom. 1931 is one of the major handbuilders of the British studio pottery movement. His organic forms are instantly recognizable.
