Size: 22.5 cm tall, max width at base 4.3 cm. Condition: Overall good condition, no damage. There is a firing fault on one edge and also a small area where the top decoration has flaked off, both faults arising in the kiln. This very striking vase is a good example or Peter Clough’s work from the last 20 years. The vase is made in a grogged porcelain clay with the decoration built up slowly using, coloured slips, shellac resist, drawing and sponging. The interior has a black vitreous engobe and the whole piece is fired unglazed to 1280 degrees C. Peter titles his work and this one is called “Grey Moor”. There is a firing crack at the top edge of the vase on one side, and on the other side a loss of a small part of the surface decoration, which probably also happened during the firing. Peter Clough trained as a potter and sculptor on the South of England, before moving North in 1966. For the last 20 years he has lived in near Harrogate, and he drives inspiration for his sculpted and painted work from the Yorkshire Dales.

A stunning studio pottery bowl, made by David White, probably in the 1980s. Cream with a salmon pink trim and foot, it is decorated with his distinctive crackle glaze. In good general condition, however there is a tiny crack to the glaze along the rim and also an imperfection to the glaze inside the bowl. I have tried to show the details in the last 2 photos but they really are almost imperceptible. I have priced accordingly. 20cm in diameter and 14cm tall. Size: 28 cm long, 19 cm tall. This is a great example of Roger Cockram’s recent work – which he describes as themes base on observations of natural water. Roger has during his career work in a variety of styles and with a number of ideas and materials, his work often relating to fish or animals. Originally born in North Devon, Roger worked as a scientist and teacher before changing direction and attending Harrow School of Art. His first pottery, in 1976, was in Muddiford, Devon, and since 1986 he has been at Chittlehampton Pottery, also in Devon. Early work consisted of kitchen wares, all made in wood fired stoneware but after 10 years Roger rediscovered a fascination for’natural’ water and it has been a major interest ever since. An illustrated biographical Essay covering the progress of Roger’s creative life and entitled:-‘Roger Cockram – Stoneware Potter’ – was published in 1998 by Richard Dennis Publications. A biography of his life and work entitled’In His Element’, written by Alan Marshall was published in 2012 by Mascot Media.
