She attended at the Royal College of Art studying for two years under the tutelage of William Staite Murray. Ms Mommens then initially set up a pottery in Kent and then at Chiswick in London. As time passed she spent time at Winchcombe and Wenford Bridge working with Michael Cardew. By the 1950’s she was potting in Sussex eventually by the 1970’s with Chris Lewis. Ms Mommens continued producing pottery throughout her life well into her late 90’s. She passed away in 2010 aged 101 years. The bowl is ash glazed stoneware. It bears the clear impressed mark for Ursula in the centre of the footring. The decoration is a wax resist abstract decoration around the circumference of the bowl and the well on a blue / grey wash (ground). This bowl measures 14 cm in diameter and stands 6 cm high. It is in good condition without any chips, cracks or repairs. There are some small glaze misses just above the base ring where Ms Mommens held the bowl by the foot-ring to dip into the glaze.

A very fine studio pottery press-moulded bottle vase by leading British potter Phil Rogers. Quartered nuka and tenmoku glazes over a very high iron slip with wax resist decoration, with additional nuka glaze to the top and neck. Potter’s mark to the underside. Excellent condition, as new. Dimensions (approximate): 22cm x 10cm x 10cm. Phil started to make these press-moulded bottles at a time when he was starting to suffer from back problems, as they gave him a break from being constantly at the wheel. I bought this particular example from Phil pretty much hot out of the kiln in 2012. It was briefly discussed by him in his Goldmark lecture to launch his “Portfolio” book a few weeks later. Listed somewhat relucantly, not cheaply, as first-class examples of Phil’s press-moulded work don’t come up for sale particularly often, but at a bit less than it would have cost retail prior to Phil’s passing.

Leach Pottery Decorated Vase #454. This vase has the impressed Leach St Ives pottery mark but no makers mark. There is an impressed mark at the side of the Leach mark but is filled with glaze and unreadable. I have valued it as a piece of unattributed Leach pottery. It is not Leach standard ware but without a readable mark it is as yet unidentified. 10 cm at its widest diameter. The cost will vary from country to country from courier to courier and will depend upon weight and size of the parcel when packed. Thank you for looking at my items which will be updated regularly.
