Please be aware this is a Guinomi and not a YUNOMI. A YUNOMI is a Japanese tea bowl however a Guinomi is a sake bowl. For obvious reasons it is smaller than the tea bowl and would be the equivalent of a’shot glass’ to put it into a modern context. It measures 4.5 cm in height and 4.5 cm rim diameter. It has a ribbed grey decoration and is in good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Clear impressed mark for Phil Rogers. Given this items size it is also possible that it could be used as an egg cup.

This hand-thrown lightly-ribbed tactile vase is beautifully decorated in a celadon glaze with a striking star crackled finish. A very rare and highly collectible piece. Kalan started potting with her husband in Mitcham, South West London in 1952 before moving to Newport in Essex in 1962. She was an early member of the Craft Potters Association and has pieces of her much sought after work on display in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Kalan died in 1978.
