Wabi-Sabi In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of appreciating beauty that is “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete” in nature. In my spare time, I really enjoy working with broken or damaged pottery and other items using in principle the Centuries-old technique known as Kintsugi. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold built on the idea that in embracing flaws and imperfections, you can create an even stronger, more beautiful piece of art. Obviously being a poor Artist I use Gold metal powders and not real Gold. It gives me great pleasure to give a continued lease of life to pieces originally made by other Artisans. An incredibly hand-crafted full-sized Japanese studio pottery Tsubo, or Jar. With a finely crafted narrow neck and opening, it can also be used as a vase. Made in Japan in the 1970s or 1980s. It’s extraordinary glazing embodies the artistry and Wabi Sabi esthetic of Japanese Mingei pottery. The loose and dynamic application of the drip glaze celebrates the beauty of random and accidental gestures. The eye-catching glazing displays a completely different. Colors and aspects on each side of the vase/jar. The artist is unknown, but it stamped with a potter’s signature maker’s mark on the bottom. It would easily be at home within an environs of Mid-Century Modern design. Dimensions of this large or full-sized Tsubo jar are 6.5 x 6.5 x 8.0. It is from my family’s private collection. The jar is in excellent condition. The jar has no chips or cracks, or any surface defects. It has never been used for functional purposes. The items will be carefully packed.
