This is a non-functional slab built vase by Craig Underhill. It is in good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and bears Craig’s incised mark on its base. I would describe it as mixed media. There are areas which have been inscribed with detail and other areas which are painted, some with matte paint and some with gloss paint. It measures 28.5 cm in height and 21 cm at its base in length and 13 cm in width. Craig describes his work as being slab built with engobe layers, slips and oxide glazes.

Up for sale is a beautiful authentic piece of contemporary British studio pottery. This elegant vase is thrown from a heavily grogged clay body to withstand thermal shock, featuring a classic globular form with a distinctive ribbed collar at the rim. This piece would have been finished using traditional Raku reduction firing techniques. It showcases a stunning, earthy surface texture with dramatic smoky charcoal carbon trap markings (fire clouds) contrasting against subtle bronze, copper and orange undertones. It is clearly stamped with the artists definitive impressed W monogram on the unglazed base. This piece is in excellent vintage condition. No major cracks, restorations, or structural damage. The rim and base show the expected course rustic texture inherent to the raku firing process. Please study the photos closely as they form part of the description.

Wonderful Moorcroft studio pottery plate, richly decorated in the Clematis pattern. Hand-painted, vibrant, and unmistakably Moorcroft. Dating from the mid-20th century and signed in blue with Walter Moorcroft’s initials. Clematis is a much-loved, elegant and increasingly rare commodity in Moorcroft’s storied catalogue. The floral design flows naturally, with subtle depth in the glaze that only hand-crafted pieces have. No chips, cracks, or repairs. The expected faint vintage crazing is visible on the reverse, yet almost undetectable on the display face of the piece. Perfect for display, a cabinet or a curated collection.
