Studio porcelain sphere – lidded box. Fellow of the Craft Potters Association. David established the Thanet Pottery near Margate with his sister in 1961. It closed in 1967 allowing him to progress onto his next venture where he established the Broadstairs Pottery in 1968. He is particularly remembered for his ability to make beautiful high-fired porcelain decorated with a blend of crackle glazes using a range of subtle colours. His work remains very sought after as it reached a technical and creative perfection that few can achieve. Early industrial work won him a prize for elegant design in 1960 which was awarded by The Duke of Edinburgh. These pieces now form part of the V&A Museum Collection, London. Condition is very Good (no faults) – see photos. Size approx 4 inches high & 4 inches diameter.

This is a special piece. An Alan Wallwork porcelain pierced and cleft sphere. Diameter/height: approximately 4.75 inches. One of Wallwork’s iconic forms, this one has a number of bells and whistles: it is porcelain, which is a bit unusual; it is highly textured, with a myriad tiny piercings. In addition to this, there are multiple glaze effects that leave some areas very white, others blue, and yet others with pooled glazes. Marked with Wallwork’s “AW” mark on the bottom, with the original label with exhibition number attached.. Made during his period in France. His organic forms are instantly recognizable.
