Vtg 1975 Signed Studio Pottery Vase 14 Hand Carved Textured Tribal Southwestern. Vintage hand-signed studio pottery vase, dated 1975. This substantial 14-inch ceramic vessel features deeply carved and incised decorative bands including rope twist, bead, scroll, and fluted motifs. The matte earth-tone clay body gives it a natural, sandy texture with strong architectural presence. The piece is hand signed and dated on the underside (appears to read “Barb 75″ – please see photos for exact signature). Details. Height: approx. 14. Hand carved decoration throughout. Matte, unglazed earth-tone clay. Felt pads applied to base. Signed and dated on underside. Condition: Very good vintage condition. No cracks or repairs observed. Minor age-appropriate wear to underside. A beautiful example of 1970s American studio pottery with strong Southwestern / tribal influence. Displays wonderfully as a statement piece. Unless an item has the word(s) “New” Or “New With Tags” it is NOT new and should be considered “Good Used Condition” unless the description states otherwise. For your consideration is this amazing Zeljko Kujundzic Vase in teal and brown. 11.5×5.5×5.5. An artist and an academic who left his mark worldwide, Zeljko Kujundzic, Professor Emeritus of Pennsylvania State University, died at the age of 82 in Osoyoos, BC Canada. He was born in Subotica, Yugoslavia, October 23, 1920, where his artistry took roots. Zeljko received a masters of fine arts degree from the Institute of Fine Arts in Budapest. His artistic media included sculpture, clay, painting, printmaking, metal, stained glass & weaving. Zeljko was a Founder and Director of the Kootenay School of Art in Nelson, BC now part of Selkirk College. From 1959 to 1963 and head of the Art Department at Pennsylvania State Universitys Fayette Campus from 1971 to 1982. His award-winning art has been exhibited in public and private collections around the world including Italys Palazzo Medici-Ricardi, the Smithsonian in Washington D. Edinburgh University, Pennsylvania State University, National Sculpture Collection, Toronto, and Kyoto National Museum in Japan. He was commissioned to created the Thunderbird sculptures at UBCs Thunderbird Stadium, and The Gate of Life, a 135-ton sandstone archway. This monument at the Jewish Community Centre in Uniontown, Pennsylvania is dedicated to remembering those who died in the Holocaust. Zeljko was also a writer and inventor. One of his major achievements was a working solar kiln. Documents his early years and his experiences in WWII, including escapes from both the Nazis and the Russians. Zeljkos sculptural work is where his style and skill is most evident. He created many works of tribal looking statues incorporating his Byzantine roots, some Mayan influences from his travels in Central America and also some Canadian indigenous flourishes from his work and study with the Kootenay people back in the 1950s. All items come from a clean smoke-free home and are mostly sourced from estate sales. It’s more than just a business for me. It’s a way of life and a philosophy.
