A powerful and unusually complete Vallauris studio pottery drinks set, comprising one sculptural jug and six matching goblets, dating to the 1960s-1970s. The jug has a strong, architectural form with a generous pouring lip and confident handle, while the goblets echo its shape perfectly – flared rims, solid bases, and the same dramatic glaze language throughout. Finished in a classic Vallauris lava glaze: volcanic orange breaking through layers of charcoal, ash grey and foaming black. Each piece shows subtle variation from the kiln, but the set reads as one – unified, intentional, and visually striking. Stamped VALLAURIS to the base of the goblets and jug. This is a set made for presence rather than politeness. It belongs on a table where people talk, pour, and linger. Condition: Very good vintage condition throughout. No chips or cracks. Striking mid-century French studio pottery vase in the manner of Vallauris. This is a sculptural free-form piece with a bold organic silhouette and pierced central form, very much in keeping with French studio ceramics of the 1950s-60s. The surface features a heavily textured, almost bark-like finish with layered earthy glazes in deep browns, greens and darker tones. The form is abstract and architectural, making it a strong decorative statement whether displayed alone or as part of a mid-century or brutalist interior. Here we have a superb studio pottery jug by Jean Austruy of Vallauris, France! I LOVE the design of this, something I’ve never seen before but it’s wonderful. He retired in 1990 but continued to sculpt, moving onto bronzes. This is just spectacular in my eyes, I love the feel of it, it’s almost like a fat lava type glaze with texture, each off-circle dot indented into the pottery. I love the abstract nature with squiggles woven in and out of the pattern – it’s just superb and much nicer in person. This would date to somewhere around the 1960’s. This is perfect for your home, a collector of Jean Austruy, French pottery or an enthusiast of mid century art/pottery. Including handle etc this measures approximately 7.25 inches by 6.25 inches by 4.75 inches. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
