Bottle Vase, United Kingdom, 1950s-1970s Studio pottery, hand-made A rare, tall, hand-made vase reflecting the aesthetic of British studio pottery from the mid-20th century. Its impressive size and substantial weight underscore its sculptural presence. Made from dense clay with thick walls, the piece has a commanding, architectural feel. The surface is covered in a matte glaze of deep grey-blue tones, featuring distinctive rusty-brown speckles. These iron-rich spots result from the intentional inclusion of iron particles in the glaze prior to firing, creating an organic, painterly effect that varies in shape and intensity across the surface. The result is a rich visual texture that enhances the form’s natural irregularities. Unsigned, as is typical of many studio works from this period. The piece reflects the influence of Leach Pottery (St Ives), Winchcombe Pottery, and Aldermaston Pottery, among other key British studios of the time. An impressive original West Germany 517-45 floor vase, produced during the golden era of West German art pottery by Scheurich Keramik. Standing approximately 45 cm tall, this substantial ceramic vase features a wonderfully organic drip glaze in deep olive green, ivory and warm ochre tones, making it an exceptional statement piece for Mid-Century Modern, Organic Modern, Scandinavian and Wabi-Sabi interiors. Its understated earth-tone palette feels remarkably contemporary while remaining an authentic piece of 1970s German ceramic design. A highly decorative display piece equally suited to dried botanicals or as a sculptural object in its own right. Weight: 4.296 kg. No cracks, chips or repairs observed. There are age-related surface marks and light scuffs to the darker lower section consistent with decades of careful use and storage.
