A stoneware vase with a flared rim. Painted Waistel Mark on base. The vase measures 14cm in height and 14cm rim diameter. In good condition and free from any chips, cracks, repairs or renovation. I would add that the light in the photographs and reflection in the main make the vase appear lighter than it is in reality. The photograph of the vase inverted and the rim show the true colour which in parts is grey green to olive green from the tenmoku underglaze.

A very fine example – a hand thrown and surface worked handled jug – bulbous body form – Waistel Cooper – signed to the base – original condition – approximately 5.5 in height – no damages. I package all items with care – see feedback. Waistel Cooper was born in Ayr, inheriting his unusual first name from his father, a bookseller and stationer. He studied drawing and painting and showed striking ability in portraiture, but this was not to be his chosen way of working. In 1946 he travelled to Reykjavik where he took to ceramics. On his return to the UK he settled in Somerset and then moved to Cornwall to be at the centre of the artist’s community at that time. He set up his studio and became an outstanding potter influenced by the world renowned ceramicists, Lucie Rie and Hans Coper.

Stylised and Textured Lamp Base. Fantastic colour & textures. Decorated with one of his most recognisable designs of horizontal lines in ruston a rough textured cream surface, purpose made as a lamp basefully signed to its base. Iconic design and style, Simple & Beautiful. Dating to the late 1960’s or 1970’s. It stands just over 14 cm to the rim of the lamp baseand is approximately 16.5 cm wide.
