Old Ellgreave Pottery Art Ware Vase Hand Painted & Signed by Lorna Bailey. A decorative studio pottery vase produced by Old Ellgreave Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, England, and hand signed by Lorna Bailey. The vase features a charming stylised landscape decoration with house and tree motifs rendered in bold black outlines with warm orange, red and yellow tones. The form includes sculptural pierced detailing along the sides, giving the piece a distinctive presence. The base carries the Old Ellgreave Pottery Art Ware mark together with the handwritten signature of Lorna Bailey. Pieces from Lorna Bailey’s early work at Ellgreave are increasingly sought after by collectors of British studio and art pottery.

Very Large 35cm Poole Pottery Hand Thrown Traditional Ware Baluster Vase Hand Painted By Senior Paintress Gwen Haskins 1938-77 In BN Design. Very Good Condition No Chips No Cracks No Crazing. Height: 35cm Max Width: 26cm Top Diameter: 14cm Base Diameter: 16cm. Back Stamped: “POOLE England” Dolphin Logo Hand Inscribed “BN” Artist’s Monogram For Gwen Haskins. Poole Pottery was founded in 1873 in Poole Quayside in Dorset. The business continued to produce unique and ground breaking pottery including amongst others the “Delphis” range which was launched 1963. The Poole factory moved away from the quay in 1999 – significantly with Master Potter Alan White throwing the final pot at the Quayside March 2001, ending 128 years of pottery production there. Production continued at the new site in Sopers Lane Poole until its’ closure in 2006. Many gifted artists and ceramic designers have been associated with Poole Pottery over its’ 128 years including Alan White who joined in 1973 and Anita Harris who for over 10 years from the 1990s was a Senior Designer and Decorator. In 2011, Poole Pottery was taken over once again, by Denby Pottery and currently a shop and studio have been kept as popular attractions on the Poole Quayside where Master Potter Alan White can still be seen demonstrating. Several designers and ceramic artists at the site help design new collections available direct from the Studio website.

Leach standard ware 1 pint tankard. Though this tankard was made at the Leach pottery and bears the clear mark associated with that pottery started by Bernard Leach it was almost certainly not made by Bernard Leach and was made by one of the many potters who worked there from 1920 through to 1978 when Bernard Leach passed away. Pictured at number 39. 10 cms diameter across its base. It has no cracks, chips or restoration. The cost will vary from country to country from courier to courier and will depend upon weight and size of the parcel when packed. Thank you for looking at my items which will be updated regularly.

Size: Diameter 35.5 cm. Condition: Very good condition. There are some typical craze lines. A very faint hairline crack on the rim has been consolidated with glue – it is so faint it will not show on an image. The charger has a wire round the purpose made groove in the foot-rim, to enable it to be wall-hung. This charger is made using the Aldermarston technique of tin glazed lustre ware, and has a design with a lizard as the central motif. It is signed by Alan Caiger-Smith, the founder of Aldermarston pottery, and has a couple of other signatures as well as the date mark for 1995 and the number 70.1 – an unusually large number of marks for an Aldermarston piece. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He trained in pottery at the Central School of Art & Design in 1954 under Dora Billington. In 1995 Caiger-Smith founded the Aldermarston pottery, where he worked with a number of assistant potters, many of whom went on to be well known in their own right. The output of the pottery was almost exclusively tin-glazed earthenware, much of it using reduction fired lustre in the manner of the ancient Islamic potters. Caiger-Smith developed and refined this technique, although he also acknowledged the pioneering work of potters such as William de Morgan and Pilkington’s Royal Lancastrian in this field. Caiger-Smith ceased using assistants around the time this charger was made, but continued to pot at Aldermarston until it closed in 2006.
