Beatrice Wood Pottery Vase + Book Description and Item Information Up for sale is this vintage Beatrice Wood studio art pottery vase, with her autobiography and a studio newsletter. Please excuse any glare in the photos. The piece has a moon pot or weed vase shape, with a bulbous body and a small opening. It has a soft, matte gray glaze over a reddish brown body. This pot stands approximately 4 1/8 inches tall, and it has a maximum width of about 4 3/4 inches. It weighs 10.9 ounces, unpacked. Also included is a copy of the book entitled, I Shock Myself The Autobiography of Beatrice Wood. This 181 page book was originally published in 1985, and the copy included is from the 1992 printing. It measures approximately 10 1/2 inches by 8 1/4 inches by 1/2 inch. An additional item included in this listing is a Spring/Summer 2005 Beatrice Wood Studio News, which was published after Wood’s 1998 death, of course. This newsletter included exhibition dates and other information. The unpacked weight of these publications is 1 pound 11.2 ounces. This grouping would be a fantastic addition to a collection of American studio ceramics. It is marked, “BEATO” beneath, as shown. Wood is listed on askART and Vasefinder, with a page on Wikipedia as well. Beatrice Wood was born in San Francisco, California. She began her artistic career as an actress, and became a painter after meeting Marcel Duchamp in France. Later, she developed an interest in ceramics. She had a studio in Ojai, California. Wood was involved in the American Avant Garde movement, and she was known as the “Mama of Dada, ” due to her association with Duchamp, Man Ray, and other early Dadaists. The book has a hand written, signed, dated inscription to the title page, as shown. It says, Beatrice Wood Happy Valley Ojai 1993. The Beatrice Wood Studio News newsletter is the Spring/Summer 2005 edition. Condition The pot looks great overall, with no chips or cracks. It has light wear to the base.
