EXTREMELY RARE Heath Ceramics Combed STUDIO VASE c. 1960
This was an early series of vases, covered jars and other objects designed and thrown around 1960 by Edith Heath herself. This particular vase features an engobe glaze in tan with a glazed onyx interior in dark green to black. The neck of the vase is a deep blue to green. The vase is signed with the Heath and teacup mark, which is among her earliest marks. This rare vessel is hand combed and glazed to create the feel of an earthy landscape of rolling hills and golden grasses evoking the color of California’s hillsides in Summer through early Fall. The deep blue green of the neck evokes distant mountain peaks above the tawny hills of California. The vase measures 7″ h x 7″ w and is free from chips, scratches, warping and other issues. The engobe is a subtle testament to the beauty of California’s golden light on her rolling hills. With the dark glaze in the collar evoking distant mountains. Don’t miss this opportunity to add this rare vase to your Mid-century Modern Studio ceramic collection. It is compatible with Danish Modern, Knoll Mid-Century interiors with furniture and other objects by Isamu Noguchi, Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, and other luminaries. The vase complements ceramic collections by the Natzlers, Marguerite Wildenhain, Vivika and Otto Heino, who also used combed decoration on their objects, and other fine potters of the era.
