Haggerty Ceramics Studio Pottery Vessel Description and Item Information Up for sale is this gorgeous studio art pottery vessel by Haggerty Ceramics. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This hand thrown open mouth vase has thin walls; it rests on a small foot. It has a stunning coppery luster glaze, with swirls of black decoration. This pot is approximately 6 inches tall, with a maximum diameter of about 7 3/4 inches. Unpacked, it weighs 1 pound 13.6 ounces. It would be a fine addition to a collection of American studio ceramics. Identification This pot is marked beneath, as shown. It was made by Haggerty Ceramics of Santa Barbara, California. The age is not known. Jim and Linda Haggerty both work at their studio, which they founded in 1992. They are known for producing pottery with luster glazes. Their work has been shown at many museums and art galleries. Per their website, Jim Haggerty was born in Methuen, Massachusetts. He and his family moved to Santa Barbara, California when he was a child. Haggerty developed an interest in ceramics at a young age; he took a glaze calculation class with Vivika Heino at the age of fifteen. He and Linda met while both worked at Santa Barbara Ceramic Design. He attended the California College of Arts and Crafts and Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, receiving his BFA degree. Afterwards, Haggerty pursued his MFA at California State University at Long Beach, where he also taught glaze chemistry. Linda Haggerty was born in Washington, D. She moved to Los Angeles with her family when she was a child. She graduated with a BA from University of California at Santa Barbara. Afterwards, she started a business called Santa Barbara Tileworks. Condition This piece displays well overall, but it is not in perfect condition. As found, there is a very fine hairline crack which extends about 2 inches from the rim downwards (please see Photo 7). There is a tiny (about 1/16 inch) glaze fleabite to the rim.
