Studio Job Biscuit, Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum Vase of Babel, VERY RARE
Complete out of production Tower of Babel Vase by Studio Job – Super rare. Part of a project titled Biscuit from 2006 including nine different plates and five objects, including a vase, a box, candleholders and a lantern. The series was inspired by an antique machine in Makkum’s factory, not used for decades, that could produce relief with greater depth. The designs were produced in limited quantities in an unglazed, matte white finish. Blue maker’s mark on back, “Studio Job, Makkum”. This series is no longer in production. Notes from the Archive. Studio Job, founded in 2000 by Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel, is best known for combining a high level of craftsmanship with extreme ornamentation. Their work sits on the border between art and design, and their iconography moves from traditional or primitive, to symbolic and monumental. Their style has been referenced as “neo-gothic” due to the complex combination of symbolic ornamentation and the message it implies. Depicts a building of authority, with clouds swirling around it. Perhaps making commentary on the uncertainty of political power. The item “Studio Job Biscuit, Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum Vase of Babel, VERY RARE” is in sale since Tuesday, December 8, 2020.
