Web: Mitchell became fascinated with pottery when his family bought the historic Ideal Pottery Factory which was established in 1920 in Dallas, Texas. He studied pottery at the Booker T. Washington School of the Arts in Dallas and established his own studio in 1982 to pursue his own style of raku pottery. Raku is a process of rapidly cooling a glaze-fired pot. The glazed bisqueware is fired to 1800 degrees, then lifted out of the kiln with tongs and placed in covered containers filled with combustible straw and leaves. Flames from the ignited material create the flash effect and crackle patterns that make each piece unique. By checking out without an invoice you might be paying more than you should.
