Jane Hamlyn MBE, studio pottery salt glazed stoneware vase, c1990
Size: 20 cm tall, width across base 11 cm. This is a simple yet elegant and well proportioned vase with a pleasing liquid salt glaze finish of the kind often sought by some of the more recent salt glaze potters today. The vase is two thrown straight sided shapes combined, very disciplined with rouletted decoration in straight lines and relatively simple in colouring, and a crisp rim. Jane Hamlyn MBE (born 1940) is one of the leading modern pioneers of salt glaze revival ceramics in Britain. Typical features of her work are thrown forms which are then altered and sometimes joined together, and the use of coloured slips to create different colour effects from the salt glaze finish. Her work is represented in major museums including the V & A. She was awarded and MBE in 2022 for services to pottery and ceramics. Is marked with Jane Hamlyn’s usual stamp.
