Donald Mills Studio Pottery Vase With Brushed Decoration
Fine and significant studio pottery vase by the well regarded potter, Donald Mills. Mills spent a year with Bernard Leach in 1944 before setting up his own pottery near London Bridge, where this piece originates from.. Unfortunately this pottery did not last long due to a broken contract (reputedly to with the supply of ceramic insulators). This pot is a relatively early entry in the history of British studio pottery and shows a leach influence, but also makes a nod to the likes of Staite-Murray. Mills pots were well recieved, they were exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum, where examples form part of the current collection. No chips or cracks. Please see my other listings for more fine 20th century decorative art, including studio pottery.
