David Leach, Lowerdown pottery, studio pottery jar, foxglove decoration, c1985
Size: 20 cm tall, about 20 cm wide. Condition: Very good condition. This vase is a personally made piece by David Leach and carries his painted initials on the base and the Lowerdown Pottery impressed mark near the foot. It is decorated with David’s signature “foxglove” motif, using a brown tenmoku glaze over an ash glaze ground of greens and greys. With lightly scratched texture. The vase is fired to stoneware. After learning his craft with his father, David set up the Lowerdown Pottery in Devon in 1955, and forged his own style with the intention of making domestic ware which was a real alternative to industrially produced pots. He also continued to make decorative items such as this vase, and his best work ranks among the most the most coveted studio pots.
