RARE Richard Brooks Australia Studio Pottery Swollen Bottle Form Porcelain Vase. A superb early one-off porcelain bottle vase with a celadon glaze by renowned Australian potter Richard Brooks. Stunning shape, short handles with lugs to neck, thrown with hand built detailing. Slight blue green tinge to glaze. Measures approx 27cms high. Impressed stamp to base. Richard Brooks took Peter Rushforth’s ceramics certificate course at East Sydney Technical College in 1970 then trained for three years under David Leach in the UK, setting up his own workshop in Torquay, UK, in 1973. Returning to Australia, he trained under Shigeo Shiga at Terrey Hills in 1974 and worked for Derek Smith at the Royal Doulton Craft Studio for a time in 1975. In 1976, he established the Booralie Pottery on Booralie Road in Terrey Hills and started taking in trainees of his own. He relocated the pottery to larger premises at Duffy’s Forest in 1980. In 1989, he resettled in Bucca Wauka on the mid north coast, and set up a pottery studio in Dyers Crossing with his wife at the time, Beate. Later, he moved to nearby Firefly, continuing to make work until around 2004. He worked in the Anglo-Oriental style, making functional pieces with a high level of technical competence.
