Mid-Century Japanese Studio Pottery Vase Ash-Glazed Stoneware. Signed. With Original Wood Box (Kiribako) Japan, c. A beautifully hand-crafted Japanese studio pottery vase, created in the mid-20th century and presented with its original signed wooden kiribako (storage box). The piece displays classic elements seen in Shigaraki and Hagi-influenced work from the 1960s-1980s: a tall cylindrical form, textured hand-carved surface, and striking natural ash-glaze flows that cascade organically across the body. The glaze ranges from earthy greens and soft ochres to deep charcoal tones, with a tactile, sculptural finish that reflects Japanese appreciation for natural clay surfaces and wabi-sabi aesthetics. The base carries an impressed maker’s seal, and the accompanying box features bold calligraphy and the artist/kiln mark.
