The surface is covered in a matte glaze of deep grey-blue tones, featuring distinctive rusty-brown speckles. These iron-rich spots result from the intentional inclusion of iron particles in the glaze prior to firing, creating an organic, painterly effect that varies in shape and intensity across the surface. The result is a rich visual texture that enhances the form’s natural irregularities. Unsigned, as is typical of many studio works from this period. The piece reflects the influence of Leach Pottery (St Ives), Winchcombe Pottery, and Aldermaston Pottery, among other key British studios of the time.
