Presenting a three-legged vase by acclaimed Georgia Master Potter Michael Simon. His tripod vessels were featured as part of the traveling exhibition “Built, Thrown and Touched: Contemporary Clay Works, ” a Mid-America Arts Alliance Tour from October 1991-October 1995. Examples of this style of vessel can also be seen in the. Monograph Michael Simon: Evolution. This piece features Simon’s classic salt glaze firing technique with a tan hued ground, and black graphic stripe pattern. Each of the three feet come to a point, which supports the vessel’s triangular form. The vase has a matte finish, and clearly displays Simon’s’MS’ chop mark, located towards the bottom edge of the piece. The vessel is in excellent condition with only one almost pin-like chip on one of the foot’s edge. There are no other chips, cracks, or flaws whatsoever. 1947 is a functional ceramic artist who lives in Athens, Georgia. His works are usually fired in salt kilns with motifs of nature and animals. Simon was a student of Warren MacKenzie, who was, in turn, a student of Bernard Leach. From the University of Georgia. In 2011, Michael Simon had a major exhibition at The Northern Clay Center entitled Michael Simon: A Life in Pots featuring 30 years of his pottery.
