Mid-20th C Vint Eaves Sgnd Nude Female Torso Figurative Terracotta Ceramic Vase
MID-20TH CENTURY AME RI CAN VINTAGE’EAVES’ SIGNED NUDE FEMALE TRUNCATED TORSO FIGURATIVE TERRACOTTA CERAMIC VASE, with CHALKY, MATTE FINISH, SIMULATING. [ARTIST SIGNED ON BASE]. Mid-20th century Ame ri can vintage figurative. Ceramic art & Modernist art pottery. Hips: 7″ Height x 5 12″ Width. Opening: 3 12″ Width x 2 34″ Depth. For your review and consideration is this really exquisite and very visually, as well as conceptually compelling, abstract figuration of a nude women’s torso, somehow deftly and cleverly realized from a wheel-thrown ceramic vessel. The softness of the female form is remarkable and quite a successful reminiscence of the Rubenesque, pear-shaped female form, of especially Victorian women and most other women, who don’t walk down catwalks modeling impossibly small clothes for a living. The exterior surfaces of the wheel thrown terracotta ceramic vessel, feature a bisque, matte finish, with a chalky white, semi-transparent wash visible to the viewer. At once, this appears to be some kind of archaic, figurative relic rather than a mid-20th century Modernist work of abstract figuration. The interior of the form features transparent clear glaze, allowing the vase to ostensibly hold water to place a flower or plant in. No cracks, surface abrasions, flea-bites or other visible damage. Clearly signed’Eaves’ in cursive writing on the base plate. Eye candy for even those sick of candy. It won’t disappoint. Very Good to Excellent overall vintage condition.
