Harrison McIntosh Vase from the Forrest L. Merrill Collection
USA, 1950 s ERA. The vase combines a linear incised and painted decoration. The flowing lip is reminiscent to Wilhelm Kage’s Farsta pieces made at the Gustavsberg pottery in Sweden. McIntosh visited artists working at Gustavsberg during an early trip to Sweden. The script signature on the bottom dates this vessel as 1958 or earlier. Signed in script on bottom “McIntosh”. The vase measures 6 3/8″ across the top, 4 1/8″ at base and 17 5/8 in height. Free of chips, cracks or repairs. The vessel was acquired in 2017 from a collector who acquired the vase from the Forrest L. Merrill Collection who was a friend of Harrison McIntosh and a major supporter of his work in clay. Merrill has lent his assistance to more than 120 museum exhibitions. He has been collecting art works for more than 65 years and remains active as a patron of the arts and a lender to museums.
