Yoh Tanimoto Japanese studio pottery stoneware mimitsuki Iga vase, boxed
A really fantastic Iga style studio pottery mimitsuki hanaire by leading Japanese potter Yoh Tanimoto. Wood fired with incredible natural ash glaze effects. Excellent condition, as new with the original signed Japanese wooden storage box. Incised potter’s mark and exhibition label to the underside. Dimensions (approximate): 27cm x 15cm x 13cm. Yoh Tanimoto is one of the most popular and highly-regarded Japanese artists working in the Iga style today (well worth checking out his website and Instagram page) and combines excellent forms with legendarily rich firings. This is very evident on this vase, which is like a landscape in clay with distinctive faces, one of which is heavily coated in green ash and carbonisation, the other showing excellent “clay flavour” and a beautiful pearlescent surface quality. A fantastic thing, showcasing all the different aspects of a really first class piece of Iga pottery. Unhappy about listing it, but needs must.
