Chris Carter, vintage British studio pottery stoneware globular vase, c1980
Size: 19 cm tall, 21 cm across belly. Condition: Excellent condition, no chips cracks or restoration. The vase is decorated with a large brushed swirl firing an orange brown, in contrast to the deeper brown of the tenmoku. It has Chris’s mark on the base. Chris Carter was born in 1945 and has been making pottery since he opened his first studio in 1971. His work is widely exhibited in leading galleries throughout the UK and also internationally. Work held in public collections include the Ashmolean, Oxford, Birmingham Art Gallery, The Walker Gallery, Liverpool and The Sainsbury Collection, Norwich. His work is featured in Modern Pots: Hans Coper, Lucie Rie and Their Contemporaries: the Lisa Sainsbury Collection, Thames and Hudson, 2000.
